A Night of Community, Culture, and Celebration: Recapping Our Juneteenth Membership Event

There are some events that leave you smiling long after the lights come on. Our Juneteenth Membership Celebration at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema was one of those unforgettable evenings.

Hosted by the Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce, members, guests, and community supporters came together to celebrate Juneteenth through fellowship, laughter, culture, and one of the most beloved films of all time—The Wiz.

Building Community Before the Curtain Rose

The evening began with a lively Mix & Mingle where members had the opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces, welcome new guests, and strengthen relationships within the Black business community. Conversations flowed as naturally as the excitement in the room, reminding us that one of the greatest benefits of Chamber membership is the opportunity to build meaningful connections.

Whether attendees were longtime members or joining us for the first time, everyone was welcomed into an atmosphere that reflected the spirit of Juneteenth—community, resilience, and celebration.

A Little Green Magic

What’s a movie party without a signature drink?

Guests had the opportunity to enjoy The Green Elixir, our specialty cocktail featuring coconut rum, honeydew melon liqueur, pineapple juice, lime juice, and a cherry garnish. Inspired by the Emerald City, it quickly became a favorite and added another fun element to the evening’s festivities.

Of course, plenty of popcorn, candy, and fountain drinks kept everyone ready for the show.

“Ease on Down the Road”

When the lights dimmed and The Wiz began, the energy in the theater only grew.

This wasn’t just a movie screening—it was an interactive movie experience.

Throughout the film, guests participated using themed engagement items and audience prompts that encouraged everyone to sing along, laugh together, cheer for favorite characters, and fully immerse themselves in the magic of the story. The interactive elements transformed the screening into a shared celebration that brought generations together around a timeless classic.

The theater was filled with smiles, applause, and moments of joyful nostalgia that reminded us why The Wiz continues to resonate decades after its release.

Celebrating Juneteenth Through Culture

Juneteenth is a time to honor freedom, reflect on our history, and celebrate the richness of Black culture.

The Wiz has long held a special place in Black artistic expression, showcasing extraordinary talent while reimagining a classic story through music, creativity, and imagination. Sharing this film as a community created space not only for entertainment but also for conversation, connection, and cultural appreciation.

Many attendees embraced the occasion by dressing in green, silver, and gold, adding even more color and excitement to the evening.
